Tu Casa Es Mi Casa - Great Latin Films
Posted On 03/27/2008 16:17:03 by NLlatino

Although vast numbers of Latin American films never reach international audiences, many do, and it is from those that I have compiled a list of the top 10 best Latin American films. I strongly urge you all to check them out.

1. Machuca ~ Federico Luppi
"Perhaps the best Chilean film ever made. Of course, the best documentary film ever made is clearly the documentary "The Battle of Chile" by Patricio Guzman. Unofortunately it is no available commercially (yet). Anyway, Machuca makes an excellent companion film to that documentary."

2. El Chacal De Nahueltoro|The Jackal of Nahueltoro ~ Nelson Villagra
"The first great Chilean film about a rehabiliated mass murderer who is nevertheless executed by the state. Based on a true story."

3. Amores Perros ~ Emilio Echevarría
"A classic of contemporary Mexican cinema. Perhaps the best Mexican film of all time."

4. The Motorcycle Diaries (Widescreen Edition) ~ Gael García Bernal
"Beautiful and profound film."

5. Memories of Underdevelopment Jose Gil Abad
"Unfortunatley this film has not been made available in DVD, but Memories of Underdevelopment is a Cuban classic of the transitions felt by Cuban society during the revolution of 1959, and the search for answers of one man caught in the middle."

6. Victor Jara El Derecho De Vivir En Paz (NTSC/RC-4) ~ Jara Victor
"The documentary biography of assassinated Chilean folksinger and theatrical director Victor Jara."

7. Carlos Gardel: El Dia Que Me Quieras ~ Carlos Gardel
"Classic of Argentine cinema."

8. De la Calle ~ Abel Woolrich
"Another great Mexican film, this time about homeless children and the rough life of growing up on streets of Mexico City."

9. City of God ~ Alexandre Rodrigues
"Amazing."

10. Central Station ~ Fernanda Montenegro
"Mexican, Brazilian, Cuban, Chilean and Argentine cinema continue to lead the way for Latin America. In this case, a wonderful Brazilian film."
